Ion Exchange and Synthetic Absorbents Equipment

Description

Pacific Water Technology supplies turnkey equipment package solution for a whole host of applications utilising ion exchange resins and adsorbent resins.

Our world class patented ion exchange and adsorbent technologies are utilised in various industries covering a whole host of different applications.  Our state-of-the-art ion exchange resins are regarded as the most efficient and are used by major producers, particularly in the food industry.  Depending on the application our resins have the relevant approvals including WQA and FDA certification.

Our equipment packages are custom designed to meet the customers’ individual production requirements. The equipment is designed and manufactured in accordance with current global sanitation standards, including NSF and EHEDG.  Globally, over 150 food processing lines utilise  Sep-solut® equipment as well as our Ion Exchange resins and polymeric adsorbents.

This includes 108 fruit juice processors (decolourisation) , 40 fruit juice processors  ( Patulin and  pesticide removal)  and 17 processing lines for deionisation. We offer continuous adsorption columns that comprise of multiple adsorption vessels rotating the duty cycle, having one in adsorption mode, one in wash mode, one in regeneration mode and one in rinse cycle therefor always being on-line to ensure uninterrupted production.

Some of the applications are listed below:

Food Industry

Ion exchange is commonly employed in many food processing industries.  Generally the processes involved are ion exchange, adsorption and chromatography   to achieve purification, recovery or separation. Ion exchange resins (IER) and polymeric adsorbents are used for various applications as listed below:

  • Softening
  • Deionisation
  • Deacidification
  • Decolourisation
  • Removal of unwanted odours
  • Purification
  • Heterogeneous catalysis
  • Chromatographic separations
  • Supports for enzyme immobilisation
  • Recovery of valued products and  subsequent elution
  • Removal of pesticides
  • Removal of heavy metals

Within the Food Industry segment the applications range from sugars, monosaccharides, sucralose, fruit juices, amino acids, organic acids, wine, glycerine and gelatine.

Pharmaceutical Industry

We supply a range of pharmaceutical resins particularly for CPC purification(liquid-liquid chromatography purification)

Enzyme Vector

There are four principal methods of enzyme inactivation; adsorption, covalent binding, entrapment and membrane confinement. Ion exchange resins and polymeric adsorbents have been used as supports for enzyme immobilisation especially after the development of macroreticular type structure.  Enzyme vectors are widely used in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and food industry segments.  Examples of immobilisation in the food industry include:

  • Anion exchange resins: glucose isomerase
  • Polymeric adsorbents: β-amylase, β-galactosidase
  • Cation exchange resins: lysozyme(recovery)

Our range of enzyme vectors are used especially in the capacity of immobilised enzymes and offer a practical and cost effective solution.

herbal

Herbal Extraction

There are a number of ways of botanical extraction of the essential oils and key hydrophilic components with the extraction methods also depending on the complexity of the key components.

Our range of herbal extraction resins have a strong reputation with proven track record.  The scope of applications of the resins include the extraction of saponin, flavonoids, alkaloids, polyphenols and also pigments for decolouration and impurity removal.

precious

Precious Metal Recovery

There is a wide range of applications in the hydrometallurgical extraction of precious metals.  This includes gallium recovery from Bayer liquor where we can offer a turnkey solution including a continuous recovery for alumina producers, resulting in significant increase in output of Gallium. 90% of global Gallium output emanates from recycled Bayer liquor.

There are two varieties of Gallium resins available – one for alkaline conditions and one for acidic conditions. The resins are also widely used in lithium recovery from lithium brine, and also Magnesium purification.

chlor

Chlor-Alkali Process

Almost all chlorine and Sodium Hydroxide is produced from the electrolysis of brine. A facility that co-produces caustic soda and chlorine is referred to as a chlor-alkali facility.

The superior mechanical strength makes our resins ideal for the purification of secondary brine in the membrane cell process, meeting very high standards.

Membrane cell technology differ from diaphragm technology in that solutions around each electrode are separated by a membrane, rather than a diaphragm.

waste

Waste Water Treatment

A whole range of applications exist of removing organics and other heavy metal contaminants prior to discharge of waste water. Ion selective resins can remove these contaminants and we offer the entire engineering solution including the SEPSOLUT® equipment package. Cadmium, Zinc, Chromium, Copper, Mercury are often detected in waste waters, which originate from metal plating, mining activities, smelting, tanneries, petroleum plants, pigment manufacture, printing and photographic industries.

Unlike other contaminants like organic wastes that are biodegradable, heavy metals are not and can accumulated in living tissue causing many diseases and medical disorders.   We also offer other adsorption media including Metsorb® that is still one of the most efficient media for removing heavy metals from aqueous solutions.

drinking-water

Drinking Water Treatment

There are a host of different ion exchange and synthetic adsorbents dedicated for the purification of potable water. All our resins are WQA certified and have a proven track record worldwide for the treatment of potable water.

There are resins specific to the contaminants that need to be removed including Arsenic, nitrates/nitrites, boron and perchlorate. Applications include water softening, deionisation and removal of unwanted contaminants by using ion specific resins.

We also supply colour changing mixed bed resins for deionisation and high silica reduction. These resins will change to cherry red when they are exhausted.
